Scana Materials Technology Centre is a company with a specialised expertise that stems from the metallurgical laboratory environment at Scana Steel Stavanger AS, Jørpeland.
The environment at Jørpeland had at the outset a substantial expertise within materials technology. By establishing MTC (Materials Technology Centre), this expertise has been strengthened and further developed, thus enabling a significantly increased attention to external customers. The company was established in 2007.
The target of the company is growth and further development of the entire Scana group’s activities within oil and gas. The company provides services within metallurgy, NDT (non-destructive testing), testing of materials, welding techniques, damage assessments and general materials advice. The company has expertise in testing and reclassifying of materials both for the onshore and offshore sectors.
Market and customers
Scana MTC is a resource centre for the companies in the Scana Group. Beyond the group, the company primarily addresses customers within the oil and gas sector. The company offers analysis, materials control, damage assessments, consultancy services, NDE services and heat treatment for steel materials. Scana MTC has recently employed a sales and marketing manager who will be strengthening and developing the company´s customer relations.
Products and services
The company’s main products are: Metallurgy services, NDT (non-destructive testing), materials testing, welding techniques, corrosion, damage assessment, general materials advice, reclassification and heat treatment.
Scana MTC experiences an increasing need for our expertise in the market. Some larger companies do not possess the necessary expertise in-house or have outsourced it. In 2009, Scana MTC increased the number of employees, and our aim is to grow even more in 2010.
In 2010 the company will invest further in equipment to perform complete field examinations and survey reports of materials.
Scana MTC has a project-based collaboration both in Norway and Sweden with universities and research environments to develop new types of products and services.
