Scana Skarpenord was originally established in the late 1960s as a subsidiary of Norsk Hydro, Rjukan Fabrikker in Telemark, Norway. The company has been an active market player with its current production range since the middle of the 1970s, and is among the leading suppliers of hydraulic valve systems for the ship and Oil & Gas industry. Scana Industrier took over the company in 1989. Today, Scana Skarpenord is a modern, streamlined business which is highly competitive even in comparison with production in Asia. The company is the largest industrial company in Rjukan.

Market and customers

The company’s key customers are shipyards and workshops involved in newbuilding, modification and upgrading of offshore vessels/installations such as FPSO’s, Drill ships, Drilling rigs and Fixed platforms. The company also serves Shipyards building larger ships such as tankers and dry cargo carriers.

The main market is in Asia, particularly China, South Korea and Singapore. The company also supplies equipment to customers in Germany, Spain, Croatia, Russia, Brasil and North America.
The market in Korea is handled by our subsidiary, Scana Korea Hydraulic. Scana Skarpenord supplies key components and technical solutions, while Scana Korea Hydraulic in Pusan is responsible for sales, engineering and assembly of the systems.
In addition to the shipyards, the shipping companies are viewed as being highly important as they exert a significant influence on the shipyards’ and other contractors’ choice of subsuppliers. Scana Skarpenord will maintain a high activity level also in 2010.

Products and services

The company develops, produces and supplies hydraulic actuators and complete valve remote control systems for ships, offshore vessels and permanent offshore installations. The products are utilized for both new projects and modification/upgrading of existing systems and installations.
Our skilled service engineers can do surveys and maintenance / modifications on site.

The company continually develops and improves their production processes. The volume of unmanned, automatic production has been increased, and our competence within tool alternatives and cutting data is developed continuously. In the last years the company has invested in many new production machines. These machines have increased the capacity and made it possible to manufacture parts round the clock with several unmanned shifts; in other words a purely automatic production. Scana Skarpenord will continue to be an important player in the market. This will be achieved first and foremost by continually improving the production processes and developing good, future-oriented and cost-effective products.

Global network

Scana has departments in China, South Korea Singapore , North America and Brazil. Partners in Turkey and Croatia do also carry out service. Our current network of agents covers most of the world’s shipping companies and shipbuilding nations.
