Printer-friendly version

Scana Offshore Vestby AS (SOV) has been awarded a contract for the machining of slewing bearing contact faces by Jotne Mekaniske Verksteder AS. The slewing bearing will be mounted in a structure with a diameter of approx. 14 meters, and it is therefore decided to use the SOV Mobile Milling- and Turning Machine. The site for the job will be Jotne Mekaniske Verksteders work shop in Fredrikstad, Norway.

The contact face to be machined will have a diameter of approx. 5 meters. A new base plate for the milling- and turning machine has been designed and is under construction for this assignment. A fundamental idea during the design phase has been to ensure a high degree of flexibility for new tasks. With the new design, Scana Offshore Vestby AS can offer on-site milling and turning with a work area between 0,8 and 7 meters in diameter.

The new base plate will have a support for the boom ensuring sufficient stiffness and accuracy. The base plate is 2,5 meters in diameter, allowing for ordinary on-road transportation for the mobilization of equipment. Connection points for lifting is provided on all parts, and the location of the lifting points in the base frame allows a balanced lift of the complete assembly.

The contract for Jotne Mekaniske Verksteder AS also includes the drilling of 156 off Ø39mm holes for slewing bearing bolts. This job will be done with the SOV Mobile Drilling Unit.
